Dr. Kriti Ghai
New Delhi
I am Dr. Kriti Ghai, from New Delhi. I studied MBBS from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences, which finished in March 2018 after one year of internship in Delhi. After 2 unsuccessful attempts at the NEET, and because of growing discontent with the education system in India, I decided to look at options abroad for my Post Graduate studies, preferably in either respiratory medicine, or ophthalmology. I decided on Germany because of the opportunities it would provide for my future employment in Europe, as well as the standard of education promised. Thus far, I feel like I have made the right choice.
I chose to take help from Niche education because of the support they promised with regards to language learning, and settling in and getting used to a new system and a new country. During our initial conversations, I was convinced that this was a good choice. There was a good, well-established system in place in order to help me along the way, with my language, my visa process, and finally, after my arrival in Germany. This has been of great help, despite a few hiccups along the way, especially with the Visa process which took a lot longer than I thought it would. But no matter. Their help with the acquisition of the Defizitbescheid was invaluable.
Through Niche education, I was put in touch with FIB and my German mentor, Frau Becker, with whom I had monthly Skype sessions in German, about public health issues in Germany, the healthcare system, and German culture in general. This greatly augmented my language lessons in Language Pantheon (a language school in Delhi, which I would wholeheartedly recommend), and raised my confidence in my verbal skills, as well as giving me a general idea of what to expect when I arrived in Germany.
A word of advice for anyone who wants to go to Germany for the PG – don’t take your language lessons for granted. Your language proficiency will be the single most important thing when it comes to integration and finding employment in your choice of workplace. Focus on it, find don’t limit it to just book learning. Find online resources, there is an abundance of those – films books, YouTube channels, anything to get you better acquainted with it. Without good command over the language, things will be very difficult once you reach there.
Good luck!
